Key West police raided a South Street house Thursday night, landing more than a pound of pot and more than 140 Ecstasy pills.

Kenneth Workman, 34, was charged with trafficking within 1,000 feet of a school and one misdemeanor count of possessing narcotics equipment. Angela Marie Navarro, 26, was charged with one felony count of possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana and a misdemeanor charge for the possession of narcotics equipment.

Police raided the home about 7 p.m., prompted by complaints from neighbors about possible drug dealing and stolen property there, said police spokeswoman Alyson Crean.

Sgt. Sean Brandenburg and his K-9, Wind, uncovered about 1.25 pounds of marijuana, reports say. Officers allegedly found more than 140 Ecstasy pills, drug paraphernalia, scales, cash and suspected stolen electronics and jewelry.

"Detectives have also received information recently that this house was receiving stolen property," Capt. Scott Smith said in a prepared statement. "This is part of our continued efforts to address increases in burglaries and thefts. This arrest is another example of the way that these crimes are directly correlated to narcotics."

Workman and Navarro were taken to Monroe County jail, where they remain. Published Saturday, February 7, 2009
