(Bayview Park, Key
West)
One
of the highlights of Saturday's Learn Not to Burn Day held at
Bayview Park was the remarkeable demonstrations by Raul
Hernandez of Canine Extreme and Officer Keith Rendueles with
his K-9 "Daxo." Several boxes were laid out on the ground,
one containing the scent of drugs. Daxo immediately
found the correct box much to the delight of the children
present. Officer Keith also displayed Daxo's ability to
protect him from harm when confronting a
'criminal.'
Raul Hernandez, Key West's
premier dog trainer, also demonstrated basic obedience with
IBN, a German Shepherd, and encouraged the children to pet
and have their photos taken with Diesle, who was more than up
for the attention.
Learn Not To Burn (LNTB) is
a fire and burn prevention curriculum developed
for
pre-school through eighth grade
by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). It has
been tested by teachers in more than 50,000 classrooms
worldwide since 1979 and is recommended by the National Education
Association. Learn Not To Burn education is responsible for
saving more than 500 lives nationwide as documented by the
NFPA.
Canine Extreme is well know
for their commitment to the community and their support of Key
West's K-9 police officers. The demonstration at Learn Not to
Burn Day was presented to showcase not only the abilities of the
police dogs in drug searches and protection, but general obedience
training for all dogs and owners.
